Application status

The Registration team changes the status of an application as it progresses through the process for approval.

The following diagram outlines the high-level lifecycle of an application and its different statuses.

An application can have the following statuses:

Status Description
An application is in a Draft state before it has been created. This allows the Applicant to review before clicking Create Application. There are many hard validations that prevent the submission and creation of an application. The participant must resolve these before proceeding.
Once an application has been created, it comes to AEMO Australian Energy Market Operator teams for assessment, manual updates for some attributes and approvals. During this process, the application status is set to Initial assessment. The general rule is an application remains in this state for 5 days.
If the application contains any issues that require more input from the applicant’s side, the status is set to Awaiting applicant. The status of an application can be set to awaiting applicant multiple times. Every time the application is updated, all values that have changed from their previous versions will need to be reassessed and approved again.
An application is set to Pending decision once all teams have approved their areas of information. It is now on the committee or the Registration Management team to determine the application and update status to Approved, Rejected, or Approved with conditions. At this stage, the application turns into a Read-Only document.

If the committee or the Registration Management team is not satisfied the application meets the registration requirements, the status is set to Rejected.
An Applicant can at any point in the process of the creating an application to its approval, withdraw the application. The applicant still incurs the fees associated with assessing the previously active application.
When the committee or the Registration Management team is satisfied with the application, the status of an application changes to Approved.
If AEMO has approved the application but requires terms to be applied to the classification, they can approve the application with some comments by setting it to Approved with conditions.
